Quentin Branch held a terrific workshop in October 2018 at his home in Oracle AZ. I've been studying rammed earth technology for quite a while, but had many questions. At Quentin's workshop, my questions were answered along with very valuable experience gained. Julie was the perfect host, contributing greatly to our knowledge and skills for rammed earth construction.
At the time of our workshop, Quentin was building a gateway (pictured above) for Oracle's community garden. The other students and I got to help (in a Tom Sawyer sort of way) with most phases of construction of the gateway. Working with the engineered soil mix, Symons forms and the pneumatic rammers went a long way toward building confidence in this construction method. Our workshop was over before the gateway was completed. I expect there will be pictures of the completed structure online soon.
Also attending the workshop were some pretty awesome people. We're all friends now, and chances are good, that we'll be inviting each other to our rammed earth builds.
